5. What must be my relationship with the church/other Christians after I become a Christian?
Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
As a new Christian our job and relationship with the church is to encourage by action, word, and deed our fellow Christians. We need to make it a habit to be in church (meeting together) every time we have an opportunity to fellowship and learn from God’s word.
I Corinthians 16:1-3 Now about the collection for God's people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. 2 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. 3 Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem.
We should practice giving to God’s kingdom and the work of his church. Tithing (giving 10%) is a practice that began in the Old Testament and its teaching was confirmed by Jesus in the New Testament. Learning to tithe is a great place to start in your giving to the Lord’s work. Remember, as a Christian, Jesus is the Lord of your life including your finances.
11:23-30 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 1CO 11:27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
Practice sharing in the Lord’s supper (communion) to remember Jesus’ sacrifice that he made on the cross for you.
